13 years ago, four remarkable wolves were born. Torak, a cross between a European and North American wolf, came to us from the Anglian Wolf Society. A few days later, three black wolves arrived: Mosi, Mai and Mika.
Torak was notably larger than the three girls and at the time we suspected he was a little older than the paperwork suggested: his exact date of birth remains unknown, but for record-keeping purposes we have him down as being born on the 22nd.
His packmates were born on the 27th. We told them apart in the early days by looking at their forepaws: Mai had black paws, Mika had one white paw and Mosi had two white paws. The female wolves' names were originally going to be native American girls' names, beginning with 'L' - Lomasi ("Pretty flower"), Lenmana ("Flute girl") and Lequoia (variant of "Sequoia"). These were thought to be too awkward, though, so simpler names were chosen - Mosi ("Cat"), Mai ("Coyote") and Mika ("Intelligent racoon").
Mika sadly didn't make it to see her first birthday (for more details, see
her page), but the remaining three wolves thrived and have gone from strength to strength. In their younger days the wolves went to county shows and were seen by hundreds of thousands of people. In more recent years they were of course separated into two packs, due to Mosi and Mai not getting along with each other. To this day both Mosi and Mai regard themselves as the Queen of the Trust! We are lucky to have them and we hope there are more happy years to come.
