More wolves to be culled in France

Apr 25, 2017

The French government has authorised an increase in this year's cull, taking the total from 36 to 38 wolves, with another increase to 40 likely.

This has incensed environmental campaigners, who point to statistics showing overall wolf mortality in France has increased from 22% annually (befiore the culls) to 34% last year. Such a high rate of mortality, say scientists, will stop the population from growing.

The 300 wolves in France are blamed for killing over 9000 sheep annually.
